[Chorus]
Jehovah God, O Father dear,
The Father of all flesh art Thou;
In wrath, O spare the righteous souls,
And send Thy peace upon us now.
[Verse 1]
Behold, the righteous faint with grief,
A remnant small within the land;
For evil spreads on every side,
And truth no longer dares to stand.
Come down, O Father, from above,
Let peace upon Thy children rest;
For blind men walk in open day,
And sin devours each faithless breast.
[Chorus]
Jehovah God, O Father dear,
The Father of all flesh art Thou;
In wrath, O spare the righteous souls,
And send Thy peace upon us now.
[Verse 2]
Men rise at dawn and sleep by night,
Yet chase the wind with restless pain;
They eat the bread of bitter toil,
But never lasting peace attain.
Who knows the errors of his heart?
Who sees the snare before his feet?
But he who knows the Lord Most High
Shall find discernment full, complete.
[Chorus]
Jehovah God, O Father dear,
The Father of all flesh art Thou;
In wrath, O spare the righteous souls,
And send Thy peace upon us now.
[Verse 3]
At morn they pray a little prayer,
At eve they speak a little more;
Then circle on from day to day,
Still empty at the spirit's core.
If one be not in Scripture rooted,
He soon is carried far away;
And ere he knows, the foe of souls
Has drawn his heart from truth astray.
[Chorus]
Jehovah God, O Father dear,
The Father of all flesh art Thou;
In wrath, O spare the righteous souls,
And send Thy peace upon us now.
[Verse 4]
All men now run for earthly bread,
And wound their souls for passing gain;
They lie, they cheat, they steal, they covet,
And count their wicked labour gain.
They say, "God dwells too far away,
He will not hear, nor help, nor see";
Yet still they bow in holy courts,
With hearts enslaved to cruelty.
[Chorus]
Jehovah God, O Father dear,
The Father of all flesh art Thou;
In wrath, O spare the righteous souls,
And send Thy peace upon us now.
[Verse 5]
Their hands are stained with guiltless blood,
Their tongues are smooth, their hearts are grim;
Men honour them in crowded halls,
Yet judgment hastens after them.
"O workers of iniquity,
Your deeds shall all be paid," saith He;
"The works your sinful hands have wrought
Shall surely answer back to thee."
[Chorus]
Jehovah God, O Father dear,
The Father of all flesh art Thou;
In wrath, O spare the righteous souls,
And send Thy peace upon us now.
[Verse 6]
The shepherds, too, have lost their crown,
And sold their calling unto shame;
They draw the people to themselves,
And not to Christ's most holy name.
They shut the gate of Heaven fast,
Nor let themselves nor others in;
They make the house of God a mart,
And lure the flock to grievous sin.
[Chorus]
Jehovah God, O Father dear,
The Father of all flesh art Thou;
In wrath, O spare the righteous souls,
And send Thy peace upon us now.
[Verse 7]
Strange doctrines rise upon the altar,
Brought forth from dark and secret snares;
The children of the living God
Are trapped unawares by their wares.
But Thou, O Lord, art biding time,
For Thou hast fixed their dreadful day;
As forests fall in one great crash,
So shall they perish in dismay.
[Chorus]
Jehovah God, O Father dear,
The Father of all flesh art Thou;
In wrath, O spare the righteous souls,
And send Thy peace upon us now.
[Verse 8]
But ye, the remnant of the Lord,
Who seek the paths of holiness,
Press onward with the crucified,
And follow Him in righteousness.
Do works of purity and truth,
Hold fast through sorrow, pain, and strife;
For great reward awaits the just,
Who walk the narrow way of life.
[Chorus]
Jehovah God, O Father dear,
The Father of all flesh art Thou;
In wrath, O spare the righteous souls,
And send Thy peace upon us now.
[Verse 9]
Endure affliction, persevere,
In faith and prayer be strong and true;
Support the weak, defend the poor,
Let mercy mark whate'er ye do.
He who hath called you from the dark
Into His light will keep you still;
Through every storm He'll bear you on,
And guide you by His sovereign will.
[Chorus]
Jehovah God, O Father dear,
The Father of all flesh art Thou;
In wrath, O spare the righteous souls,
And send Thy peace upon us now.
[Verse 10]
Unto Thee, Lord, shall all men come,
To give an account of all they've done;
The evil and the righteous both
Shall stand before Thy judgment throne.
O save the captive and oppressed,
Deliver from the tyrant's hand;
Let wicked powers be overthrown,
And let Thy truth revive the land.
[Chorus]
Jehovah God, O Father dear,
The Father of all flesh art Thou;
In wrath, O spare the righteous souls,
And send Thy peace upon us now.
[Verse 11]
My heart is grieved to see the wrongs
That wound the souls that call on Thee;
Yet Thou hast filled my mouth with fire,
And armed my hand with victory.
Arise, O Lord, in righteous power,
Let holy judgment now descend;
Speak peace unto Thy faithful ones,
And be their Keeper to the end.
[Chorus]
Jehovah God, O Father dear,
The Father of all flesh art Thou;
In wrath, O spare the righteous souls,
And send Thy peace upon us now.
